Swiss Re America
Headquarters Building

This design was an entry in an invited international design competition for Swiss Re America's new 260,000 square foot U.S. headquarters building. The selected site for the building is the Kingswood Office Center located in Armonk, New York.

The building has been designed with a glass cylindrical entry lobby that contains a reception area and a stairway that connects the three main levels of the building. The concept is a radial plan with narrow spines that fan out to maximize views from within
the building. The main radial cross axis of the building is penetrated by four glass-
covered atria that provide natural light throughout the building.

The building will be glazed with a special acoustical window section that will have a solar shading tint to provide energy efficiency. The curved sections of the roof that are over the spines will be clad in zinc so that the roof will age gracefully and require little or no maintenance over the years. The lower level of the building will include special
services including food service, conference facilities, training facilities, and a fitness
center.

Jeff Sydness designed the Swiss Re America headquarters while a design partner at
SHCA.
