Conrad International Hotel

The Singapore site for this 35-story hotel posed a number of challenges because of its orientation and irregular shape.

In sitting the project, it was very important to consider the geometry of the surroundings as well as the irregularities of the site.

The hotel tower, therefore is oriented respecting the city grid and maximizing views. The base of the tower is a podium which contains large scale rooms for a hotel of this type; including a spacious lobby, ballrooms, three restaurants, meeting rooms, and service areas. The tower contains the 550 hotel rooms and suites. An outdoor pool and restaurant/bar are located on the top of the four story podium.

The podium is clad in granite and a large glazed canopy creates a generous entrance into the three story high lobby space. The tower is comprised of a combination of recessed punched windows which form a pattern that is interrupted by a curtain wall skin which has gentle folds projecting out at several points around the tower.

The Hotel is connected to the 500,000 square foot Millennia Mall which will contain high-end retail, restaurants, and theaters. The mall is made up of a series of rhombus-shaped spaces, each topped by a skylight leading to a Great Hall which opens out into the plaza.
