The Song Jiang Development will be a world-class center combining residential, commercial office, recreation and retail all within easy walking distance. The goal of the development is to create a quiet residential neighborhood, complete with amenities, physically connected to a vital, active, retail and business center. The retail area at the center will open to the existing shopping street, Tong Yuan Rd. on the north and allow for easy access through the development to the green area on the south.

The west end of the site includes a five-star hotel and a corporate apartment building that also have views of the green area. The design of the hotel and the apartments blend together as one harmonious language of light-colored granite and refined details that will show quality and thoughtfulness. The office building is located along the busy Tong Yuan Road at the north end of the site.

The four-story retail center curves through the site and connects to both the residential precinct and the office/hotel district, thus giving it a prime location in the center of the development. The heart of the retail district is a circular open space with a fountain and sitting area, which serves as an important orienting element and will be the spiritual center of the project.

Sydness Architects was invited to participate in this international design competition. The firm designed the masterplan and all buildings with Concorde Development of Shanghai as associate architects.
